Nova Scotia Man Sues Catholic Church

A man from Cape Breton who says he was sexually abused by a priest for several years held an emotional news conference on Thursday.

Philip Latimer says the abuse began when he an 11-year-old altar boy in the archdiocese of Antigonish.

He says the abuse put him in a ‘dark, dark hole’ and his lawsuit is motivated by the suffering of other young boys.

According to Latimer, he opted out of a class-action settlement offered to several alleged victims because it was brokered by Bishop Raymond Lahey.

Lahey is now facing child pornography charges.

Latimer says he wants more information on what the church knew at the time of the alleged abuse.

His $2 million suit has been filed against the archdiocese of Halifax and the diocese of Antigonish.
