The Lisbon Treaty debate certainly became one of the more over heated debates this country has seen for some time.
However, in the offices of the organ that is the Irish Catholic newspaper (this newspaper has no official standing with the Irish hierarchy let it be noted) the debate took on a more vehement and arrogant tone.
The anti-Lisbon group identifying themselves under the name Cóir submitted a message to the Irish Catholic seeking the right to reply to one particular journalist, Ms Siobhán Tanner, and her anti-Cóir rantings in the paper in the lead up to the casting of votes afresh on Lisbon.
Ignoring such requests as is the norm in Farm Centre out there in Bluebell, Ms Tanner decided to change tack in replying and referred to another piece carried by the paper and was almost vitrolic in demanding a response to the article by Cóir.
Cóir did indeed respond to the outrageous and unfounded charges (nothing new there then) by Ms Tanner which was not to her satisfaction which resulted in her forwarding the correspondence to her editor, Garry O'Sullivan.
In doing so, she labelled Cóir as being a 'shower of fuckers' and O'Sullivan with all due 'professionalism' forwarded a response to Cóir, which contained the message which had been forward to him by Ms Tanner containing the expletives used in describing Cóir earlier.
No doubt the interactions of conversation and emails became very much livened up thereafter but where the Irish Catholic is concerned, professionalism certainly does not exist.
