A woman is facing dozens of felony charges for threatening priests at three different Catholic churches in Osceola County.
Sheriff Deputies say the threats started last year when Rosemary Kirkwood sent herself stalker mail from a fictitious Marine. She initially told the Sheriff’s Office about the letters.
But then deputies say she started sending the letters to three churches demanding that priests set up meetings between her and her imaginary stalker.
If the priests did not meet her, she threatened them with bodily harm.
Father Chris Hoffman said he received several of the letters.
"Just very surprised by the whole thing and shocked," said Father Chris Hoffmann with Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
"She seemed like a very pleasant, kind, wonderful person who was very meek and gentle. And the letters seemed very aggressive, very violent almost. So it seemed like a very different kind of individual,” Hoffmann added.
Investigators say Kirkwood sent letters to St. Catherine's of Siena, St. Thomas Aquinas and Holy Redeemer.
"After a search warrant was obtained for her house we found evidence. We do know for a fact that she is the one that 62 letters to three separate churches," said Twis Lizasuain with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
When sheriff deputies confronted Kirkwood, she insisted the stalker really existed.
"She said that there's a real person that is making her send these letters on his behalf," said Lizasuain.
Sheriff Deputies still do not know why the woman sent the letters.
