Protestant schools suffering worse says PPA

The Protestant Parent's Association has accused the government of making things more difficult for children attending protestant schools than those in catholic and voluntary schools.

The PPA have said education cutbacks are having a more traumatic impact on students in protestant secondary schools where the pupil teacher ratio has increased to 20-to-1, they say the ratio is 19-to-1 in other schools.

PPA spokesperson Eleanor Petrie says the government must review the situation,

"We're looking to see how these cuts have impacted on our school and how we can ask the government really to review what has happened because they've changed something that has been in place since the introduction of free education into the state in 1967. For the first time they've decided to make things more difficult for protestant schools."
