Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, King of Saudi Arabia, is due to meet and hold talks with Pope Benedict XVI in Vatican City, sources have said.The Tuesday meeting is a part of King Abdullah's European tour.
He is currently on a state visit to Britain.
The meeting will be the first encounter between a Saudi king and a Roman Catholic pontiff.
"King Abdullah will also meet with Italian Prime Minister, Romano Prodi, in Rome later in the day," Prodi's office said in a statement on Wednesday.
