61st anniversary of late Pope's ordination

Thursday, November 1 marked the 61st anniversary of the priestly ordination of the late Pope John Paul II.

The future Pontiff was ordained in the palace of the Archbishop of Krakow by Cardinal Stefan Sapieha.

Father Karol Wojtyla celebrated his first Mass on the Feast of All Souls in the chapel of St. Leonard at Krakow’s Wawel cathedral.

In 1996, as he celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination, Pope John Paul issued an invitation for all the priests ordained in 1946 to join him in celebrating that anniversary.

About 1,500 priests traveled to Rome for a concelebrated Mass in St. Peter's Basilica on the feast of All Saints. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
