The parish of Moor in Cloonfad is the most southerly parish in the Tuam Archdiocese and the function also marked the 50th anniversary of Archbishop Cassidy's ordination in 1959.
Dr Cassidy (76) who is a native of Charlestown in County Mayo became Archbishop of Tuam on July 11th 1987 having served as Bishop of Clonfert for the previous eight years.
He stepped down from the position on 5th March 1995 citing ill health as the main reason and was succeeded by Fr Michael Neary.
A well-known writer, Dr Cassidy published a book in 2006 of homilies entitled “These Might Help.”
