We here at CW can formally announce that the successor to Bishop Willie Walsh is to be named within 24 hours.
He will be publicly unveiled as the current Superior General of the SMA - Rev Kieran O'Reilly.
Fr Kieran O’Reilly, from the diocese of Cork, Ireland was born 8 August 1952.
He took his permanent oath of SMA membership on 10 April 1977 and was ordained to the priesthood on 17 June 1978.
He was a missionary in Liberia, and later a lecturer of Biblical theology at the Seminary of Saints Peter and Paul, Ibadan, Nigeria.
He served as vice provincial of the Irish Province, and later vicar general of the Society until his election as Superior General in 2001.
He was re-elected Superior General on 5 May 2007 for another mandate of six years.
