But who gets to keep the incense?

One of the most contentious arguments raging throughout the Catholic Church is its steadfast refusal to allow priests to marry.

Is this because it is worried that clerics will spend more time wallowing in the pleasures of the flesh than attending to the pastoral care of their flock?

Hardly, seeing as the only wallowing married people do is in self-pity rather than any pleasures of the flesh.

So, if not that, could it be that it just doesn't like women very much?

Or maybe, just maybe, it was aware that there was always the prospect of something really terrible happening -- like a threat to Church property.

That's what's happening in Brooklyn at the moment, where a divorce case is currently getting very nasty.

The estranged wife of a local pastor has gone to the courts to have her former hubby's church included in the list of recoverable assets.

"That church is no different than any other business he might have opened," claims the woman's lawyer.

The pastor's lawyer opined, rather reasonably you might think, that: "No person can own a church; he's just a church employee."

Still, there is form here for the Church -- that whole messy break up, known legally as Christ Versus Christ, saw his ex, Mary Magdalene, get her reputation thoroughly trashed.

In fact, it still hasn't recovered...
