Former priest denies sexual abuse

A former Roman Catholic priest has pleaded not guilty to 22 charges of sexually abusing young boys.

Richard John James Robinson, 72, who was extradited from the US in August, denied the charges when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court.

No application was made for bail and the case was adjourned until a trial, which is expected to begin next year.

The alleged offences took place between 1959 and 1983 in Walsall, Coventry, Birmingham and Wales.

The charges include 12 counts of indecent assault and three of gross indecency on young males.
