The three-person panel which will assess the assets of 18 religious orders which ran residential institutions for children is expected to be appointed by the end of the month, the Government signalled last night.At its weekly meeting yesterday, the Cabinet was informed that some of the orders had yet to furnish an evaluation of their assets.
A Government spokesman said some orders had already delivered their audits, that most of the other reports from congregations were imminent but that there may be a very small number that could be the subject of further delay.
No details were given as to the details or length of the delay. It was indicated that the three-person panel will not be appointed until all reports have been received.
The 18 religious congregations ran institutions where thousands of children were physically and sexually abused over a period of decades.
The three-person committee will report as to the adequacy of the material for assessing the resources.
