Rebel priest resting after collapse

Rebel priest Father Peter Kennedy has collapsed and been taken to hospital just hours after celebrating what could be his last Mass at St Mary's church in South Brisbane.

The 71-year-old fainted and was rushed by ambulance to Brisbane's Mater Hospital at about 7.45pm yesterday, but was not admitted.

A St Mary's spokeswoman said Fr Kennedy was "pretty stressed out at the moment" and was resting at home as a precaution.

"He's fine," the spokeswoman said.

Fr Kennedy was reportedly up and about and talking to people this morning, the spokeswoman said.

The Catholic Archbishop of Brisbane, John Bathersby, has terminated Fr Kennedy's appointment from this Saturday after complaints St Mary's was no longer "in communion with the Roman Catholic Church".

At the church, unorthodox masses are conducted, women can preach and homosexual couples are blessed.
