Archbishop of Westminster
Earlier this year I spent some time in Zimbabwe, a nation that has suffered a great deal in recent years.
It would be easy to think of it as a country without hope, but in fact that was not the case.
Whilst I was there I was inspired by the faith of many of the people I met, among them, a religious sister, whose tireless work for those less fortunate than herself brought the love of God and real hope into the lives of the people she met.
At the moment there are many people in this country who feel that they are without hope. Many feel burdened with financial and other problems and we must remember them in our prayers.
However, it is important that we do not lose hope, despite the troubles that may face you in your daily lives.
At Christmas God has come near to us in Jesus Christ, our 'Emmanuel', bringing hope into our world.
I pray that all of you will experience joy and hope this Christmas.
