NEW PASTORAL INITATIVES AND APPOINTMENTS IN WEST CLARE PARISHES

The Bishop of Killaloe has re-organised the parishes of West Clare due to falling numbers of priests and three recent retirements.

The 10 parishes have been clustered together in two groups as there is no longer a supply of priests to replace those who retire.

A full time pastoral worker has also been appointed as well as a moderator to the two clusters.

The parishes of Cross, Carrigaholt, Kilkee and Doonbeg will form one working group while Kilmihil, Kilmurry Mc Mahon, Kilimer, Kilrush and Cooraclare will form a second local working group

Father Gerry Kenny will take up the post of Parish Priest of Kilkee and Doonbeg with Father Joe Haugh as his assistant while Father Michael Sheedy will become the Parish Priest of Kilrush and Kilimer with Father Michael Collins as the curate.

In Cross and Carrigaholt, Father Michael Casey is the Parish Priest with Father Paddy Culligan as assistant priest.

The parishes of Kilmurry McMahon and Cooraclare will be served by Father John Kelly with Father Pat Carmody as assistant while Father Peter O'Loughlin will take up the post of Parish Priest of Kilmihil and the Assistant Priest of Cooraclare

The full time pastoral worker for the cluster is Maureen Kelly with Father Michael Collins as moderator.
