August 21, 1879 Fifteen people claim to witness an apparition outside the south gable at the church in Knock.
They stand in awe saying the rosary for two hours in pouring rain.
Six weeks later, the Archbishop of Tuam John MacHale sets up a commission of inquiry which reports that the "testimony of all, taken as a whole, was trustworthy and satisfactory".
1936 The Archbishop of Tuam Joseph Gilmartin sets up a new commission to examine three surviving 1879 witnesses and is satisfied they confirmed their original statements.
September 1979 The shrine is given the full seal of approval by Rome with the visit of Pope John Paul II.
1986 Knock is put on the spiritual tourist map with the building of its international airport by Monsignor James Horan.
1993 Mother Teresa visits Knock Shrine.
August 14, 2009 Celebrating the 130th anniversary Knock apparition, Cardinal Sean Brady calls for prayers for "the shameful legacy of abuse within the church and in society".
October 11, 2009 Over 5,000 people gather at Knock in hope of seeing the apparition of Our Lady, following the prediction by a clairvoyant. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
