The papal honour Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice has been presented to the respected sociologist and campaigner on social issues Fr Michéal MacGréil by Archbishop of Tuam Michael Neary.Born in 1931, Fr MacGréil was an officer in the Army when he decided to become a Jesuit priest.
His book, Prejudice and Tolerance in Ireland, has become a text book for third-level sociological courses.
He also undertook many sociological surveys in the west of Ireland.
