VOTF beats fundraising deadline

A week after launching an appeal for $60,000 to keep its national secretariat going, lay activist group, Voice of the Faithful, says it has already raised enough money to keep operating for the present.

Voice of the Faithful President Dan Bartley told WBUR that, in just over a week, $70,000 has been raised to meet July and August's operating costs.

The swift fundraising effort allows the group to implement a new long-term strategic plan for membership growth to ensure the organization's future sustainability.

"Rather than any one-size-fits-all approach to our membership and inviting them to participate in our organization, we've created five platforms," Bartley said, "so that people can plug into the organization and get involved in the areas they're most interested in."

The group hopes to raise additional money so it can continue to operate long-term, AP says.
