Saudi King to meet Pope Benedict XVI

Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, King of Saudi Arabia, is due to meet and hold talks with Pope Benedict XVI in Vatican City, sources have said.

The Tuesday meeting is a part of King Abdullah's European tour.

He is currently on a state visit to Britain.

The meeting will be the first encounter between a Saudi king and a Roman Catholic pontiff.

"King Abdullah will also meet with Italian Prime Minister, Romano Prodi, in Rome later in the day," Prodi's office said in a statement on Wednesday.
