Priest rubbishes freeloaders

A parish priest has hit out at "cheapskates" who are dumping household waste in the local graveyard skip.

The skip at St Mary's Cemetery, Buncrana, Co Donegal, is there for people to dispose of old wreaths and flowers when tidying up graves.

It also facilitates the local gravedigger and helps the caretaker keep the cemetery neat and rubbish-free. But Fr John Walsh said the skip had become a magnet for fee-shy householders who don't want to pay for rubbish collection.

"Some people are using the skip in the graveyard to avoid paying for waste collection. I would describe that as cheapskate," said Fr Walsh, who appealed for them to stop.

Buncrana has a pay-per-bin kerbside collection service.
