Man arrested over church brass eagle theft

A 61-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the theft of a brass eagle from a church lectern.

It was taken from St Augustine's Church in Edgbaston, Birmingham, on 10 June.

A week later it was found at a scrap dealer in the Black Country and returned to the church.

West Midlands Police said the man was being held in custody.

The lectern is as old as the church itself, which opened in 1868.

Church officials have since installed a motion sensor and other anti-theft measures.
