On Wednesday, May 29 at 2:50pm a man walked in to St Joseph’s Church on O’Connell Avenue carrying an implement.
He used this to pry the church collection box off its stand and walk out with it.
Sergeant Ber Leetch, crime prevention officer at Henry Street garda station said she has seen multiple reports of break-ins at businesses premises over the last week.
"I have seen reports of a number of business premises broken into in the last week around the city and county and all for the cash float.
"The amount of cash floats vary between €200 and €800. Gardai understand that there is less cash circulating so criminals will go where they know they will find it and cash floats in tills are the current target. Staff tip jars and charity boxes are also being targeted.
"Keep all cash out of sight and the security of church collection boxes need to be reviewed; I can be contacted at Henry Street garda station if anybody wants my advice."
