“It allowed Christians a great sigh of relief,” Archbishop Rino Fisichella said in the interview, which appeared in L’Osservatore Romano’s November 23 edition.
“Do not forget that many times the Church has appeared more as a ‘stepmother’ than as a mother,” he continued. “And she appeared more with the Code of Canon Law in hand, not the Gospel. For this reason, the great breath that gives mercy was welcomed as a wind of spring.”
The prelate also discussed the initiatives mentioned in Pope Francis’s new apostolic exhortation, Misericordia et Misera.
