Italian foreign minister Paolo
Gentiloni discussed joint diplomatic relations with the Vatican
on Thursday with Richard Gallagher, the Holy See's Secretary for
Relations with States.
The meeting was followed by the first-ever joint press
conference at the foreign ministry following a bilateral
meeting.
Consultations between Italy and the Holy See "are periodic
and, as always, also a chance to confirm extraordinary
relations", Gentiloni said, as well as an opportunity to discuss
international scenarios and "bring in possible joint diplomatic
actions".
The minister noted that the two had discussed the migration
crisis, Syria and Iraq, as well as concerns for Christian
minorities abroad and aid to Africa.
