Pope meets leader in Italian campaign for legal abortion

Pope Francis met on November 8 with Emma Bonino, the Italian politician who has led public battles for legal acceptance of divorce, abortion, and same-sex unions.

Bonino, a former leader of the Radical Party, has served as Italy’s foreign minister and as the European health commissioner. 

More recently she has taken time off from politics for treatment of lung cancer; the treatment has been judged successful.
