Man charged with assault of elderly nun in Broome

Area near where the attack occurredA man has been charged with aggravated assault after an elderly nun was knocked to the ground and kicked during a daylight attack in the northern WA town, according to the ABC.

Police said the nun, 76, who has worked for decades in the Kimberley region, went into her front yard after hearing a noise last Wednesday morning. 

The attack occurred within a large section of land owned by the Church in Old Broome.

"She heard a noise and went to investigate, and a male person pushed her over and started kicking her," Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Bradshaw said.

"If it wasn't for the people who heard her and intervened it could have been much worse."

Two women, who were at a nearby property on Barker Street, rushed to the victim's aid.
She was taken to hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

Detectives have charged a 33-year-old Broome man with aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm.
