Father John Dardis SJ joins Jesuit General Council

IMG_7752.JPGIrish Jesuit Father John Dardis, who has been president of the Conference of European Provincials since 2010, has just been appointed to the General Council by the new Jesuit Superior General, Fr Arturo Sosa.

Fr Dardis will hold a newly-created post, that of General Counsellor for Discernment and Apostolic Planning (DPA).

The Congregation will now move to elect Father General’s four Assistants ad providentiam.

The role of these Assistants is to look after and help the Father General, both in matters relating to his manner of governing and in issues concerning his lifestyle and health.

The process by which the Assistants Ad Providentiam are elected follows closely the one adopted for the election of Father General himself.

Four days are given over to murmuratio, private discussion among the members of the Congregation about possible candidates, followed by an election.
