On Friday, November 4 the State Committee for the work with religious
organizations carried out a joint inspection with representatives of the
Ministry of the Interior, in shops that sell religious books in several
districts of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijani: the inspection - reports
a statement issued by the departments - noted "irregularities" in at
least 8 retailers, that had no required permits, and ordered the seizure
of books, DVDs and CDs regarding religious topics.
In late October, the Azerbaijani Parliament adopted amendments to the
law on freedom of religion with the aim of countering the activities of
"extremist religious organizations" that operate on national territory
without being registered with the relevant state bodies.
