Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Archbishop Luis Mariano Montemayor as Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland.
Appointed to Ireland in February 2023 by the late Pope Francis, Archbishop Montemayor's time as Nuncio coincided with the Synodal Pathway consultations and assemblies.
He also engaged in listening and discussions in several dioceses around the island.
On behalf of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference, Archbishop Eamon Martin expressed his appreciation to Archbishop Montemayor, following the pope's announcement.
Archbishop Martin said the Nuncio's friendliness and good nature had been appreciated, and his approachability had been welcomed by many.
He said Archbishop Montemayor’s guidance and support to the Irish bishops regarding diocesan review and restructuring has been sensitive, collaborative, and much appreciated.
Archbishop Martin wished the Nuncio good health in his retirement.
