Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi has paid tribute to the late rock ‘n roll
icon Lou Reed in a series of tweets.
Cardinal Ravasi, the head of the
Vatican’s culture ministry, commemorated the singer by quoting a verse
from his song Perfect Day.
Cardinal Ravasi, whose twitter name is @cardravasi, wrote: “Oh, it’s
such a perfect day, I’m glad I spend it with you, Oh, such a perfect
day, You just keep me hanging on (Lou Reed)”.
The cardinal followed this initial tweet with a passage from the
bible which included a further quotation from the song: “Be under no
illusion: God will not be fooled. You’re going to reap just what you sow
(Galatians 6,7 and Lou Reed in Perfect Day)”.
Cardinal Ravasi’s tribute was one of many that poured in after Reed’s
death on Sunday, with his friend and collaborator David Bowie
describing him as “a master”.
Reed, the lead singer of the influential
rock group The Velvet Underground died at the age of 71.
According to
reports, his death was caused by liver disease.
Reed underwent liver
transplant surgery earlier this year.
