Ms Eithne Egan of the Legion’s Divine Mercy presidium said she had no doubt that Our Lady had a plan for Limerick and she would help solve the city’s notorious gang warfare.
“Once the mothers of Limerick turn to Mary in prayer, their request will be responded to,” Ms Egan said.
She said the Legion had managed to coax a member of the notorious Dublin criminal gang, the Westies, to abandon crime and become an active Legion member.
The Legion recently tried to set up a group in the troubled Moyross suburb but without success.
But Ms Egan said there were “promising signs” and said the Legion was well-received by people of all ages.
“One young man, who claimed that he was wearing a bullet-proof vest for protection, accepted a miraculous medal which he pinned onto his jacket,” she revealed.
The Legion of Mary has conducted a recruitment drive in Limerick recently, but Ms Egan says it has difficulty in recruiting male members to its ranks.
“At present the Legion has fifty members in Limerick, only four of whom are male.” Ms Egan revealed.
“The public perception of the Legion is one of a bunch of holy Marys who go around telling people to say their prayers, but that is not accurate,” she added.
A large number of young people had joined the Legion of Mary in recent years and the majority of members is between the mid-thirties and early-forties, Ms Egan claimed. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Disclaimer
