This is what a delegation of leaders of the Iraqi Communist Party, who visited the headquarters of the Chaldean Patriarchate on Monday, January 9th communicated to the Patriarch.
On that occasion, the delegation also expressed its best wishes to the Patriarch for the already celebrated Christmas and the start of the new year.
Founded in 1934, the Iraqi Communist Party played a major role in the Iraqi political scene until the seventies of last century, taking part in almost all national uprisings and major political events which occurred in the country in the forties and fifties.
Then, in 1978, it suffered severe repression by the regime of Saddam Hussein.
It opposed the US invasion of Iraq in 2003.
