Pope Francis received Malta’s president, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, in a December 17 audience.
Coleiro Preca also met with the Vatican’s Secretary of State,
Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the
Secretary for Relations with States.
According to the Holy See Press Office, the parties discussed the
nation’s Catholic identity—the Catholic faith is Malta’s state
religion—as well as “the relevant role of the Church in promoting the
human and cultural progress of society.”
The parties also discussed migration, regional conflicts, and “the importance of dialogue between religions and cultures.”
