Yesterday, Sunday, December 18, at about 4.30 in the morning, the
Superior General of the Xaverian Missionaries (Pious Society of St.
Francis Xavier for Foreign Missions), Father Luigi Menegazzo passed away
at Santo Spirito hospital in Rome, where he had been hospitalized for
some time.
In recent days, his health had worsened, and he died of
cardio-respiratory failure.
According to information from the General
Curia, the funeral will be held in Rome at the General House in Viale
Vaticano 40, on Tuesday, December 20 at 10,30.
In Parma, at the Conforti
Sanctuary of the Mother House, there will be a prayer vigil at 8.45pm,
on Tuesday 20, and the Eucharistic celebration on Wednesday 21, at
10,30.
Born in 1952 in Cittadella, in the province of Padua, Father Menegazzo
entered the Xaverian Missionaries in 1963.
Ordained a priest on
September 25, 1977, he obtained a license in missiology at the Gregorian
University in 1989. He was a missionary in Japan. He taught History and
phenomenology of religion at the Theological Xaverian Institute in
Parma.
In 2001 he was appointed Vicar general of the congregation, and
the General Chapter of 2013 elected him Superior general.
