My dear friends, on this blogspot yesterday, a story which was posted has given cause to many, many people to enquire after some assistance in reporting abuse of elderly citizens of this country.The story, best described as Abuse Of The Elderly has already claimed how the innocence and frailty of the aged in our communities has been so abused by those given the position to assist them in easing their pains in later life.
A clerical colleague was responsible for bringing this matter to the attention of the HSE which is standard procedure but their failure to investigate the matter forced him to bring the matter to a national newspaper which printed the story....
I am sure that when you read the story itself, you shall also be disturbed at how it reads and bad as that may be, the arrogance of the select few in the HSE leaves a lot to be desired and special mention should be made here of Ms Geraldine MURPHY (Director of Services for the Older Person0 and her supervisor, namely one Mr Patrick DUNNE.
On behalf of Fr RYAN who investigated and ensured this matter was not permitted to be dropped or brushed aside, I ask you all to consider discreetly checking out the home help service in your area and always know the details of the contact person responsible for them.
If you do suspect abuse or advantage is happening, by all means do not hesitate from making it known and if you feel that you are being ignored, then certainly by all means, let me know and I will ensure Fr RYAN is alerted straight away and he can take it from there with you.
We do sometimes forget that we will all reach that stage of our lives when we too shall be old, dependant and vulnerable but we should not be voiceless so let us make sure that it holds true for those who depend upon us to make their final stretch of time with us a peaceful and joyful time and not one of fear!!!
