Many People Believe in Money and Power – Archbishop

"Let us not allow the culture of earthly reality to reign over us – Zagreb Archbishop, Cardinal Josip Bozanic, told believers assembled in Marija Bistrica on the Feast of the Assumption.

"Our society is full of people convinced of their self-sufficiency, who set money and career as their only goal – Bozanic said, warning that observing Mary, every man could discover the value of their life and understand that greatness and dignity did not depend on origin, wealth or power. God’s word brings the message of hope."

Bozanic also said that in today’s world evil destroyed the fabric of society, family, communities and peoples, disturbing the essential order and basic values of human life.

"The secret of evil does not stop its negative effect in history and in this turbulent time and we permanently feel the destructive force of evil in our environment and in the entire world." the cardinal warned.

Bozanic stressed that today the word of God brought us the valuable message of hope and called on responsibility. Hope is born from awareness that the final victory cannot belong to evil, it does not and cannot belong to sin and death.

"Victory belongs to God and the power of his Christ," Bozanic said, "Let us pray for our homeland Croatia."

In order to preserve the values of the Christian heritage, Cardinal Bozanic called on the faithful to pray for family and their homeland and for a wise heart so they could recognise those who promote the common good.

"Let us pray for our homeland Croatia, for harmony and togetherness in it, that the fabric of our Croatian people is not disharmonised by those who do not care for Croatia’s prosperity. Let us pray often and with determination, especially in the coming months, for the people and the homeland, that God free us from illusions and misleading offers and that He gives us a wise heart so we can recognise and support that which promotes the common good, solidarity, peace and understanding to the benefit of all in the present and future." Bozanic said.

The Zagreb archbishop reiterated that a Catholic believer in Croatia knows that it is necessary to respect Sunday – the Lord’s day: a day when the faithful assemble for holy mass, a day of unity and weekly repose.

"A Catholic believer in Croatia appreciates family and family life because a healthy family is the best support, security and a blessing both for the individual and the entire people, especially for children and the youth." Bozanic said.

Some 20,000 believers from the Zagreb Archdiocese and other parts of Croatia were present at the mass.
