A Kenton County grand jury in Tuesday indicted a Catholic priest on leave from the Archdiocese of Cincinnati on charges he possessed cocaine and drug paraphernalia.Thomas Gaeke, 58, faces up to five years in prison if convicted on the charges.
Members of the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force arrested Gaeke in January at the Hampton Inn in Covington.
Agents said they received information about drug activity in his room, and Gaeke was stopped as he was getting into his car outside the hotel.
Archdiocese of Cincinnati officials said Gaeke has been on medical leave the past six years and had been living in Tampa, Fla., although he also owned property in Covington. He gave police an address in Tampa.
Before going on leave, Gaeke was pastor of parishes in Dayton, Ohio.
