The leading homosexual activist in Italy’s parliament has again launched an ad hominem attack against another lawmaker who opposes legal recognition of same-sex unions.Dr. Paola Binetti, a “teodem” who is a member of the center-left government coalition, told an Italian television audience that she saw no reason for legislation allowing civil unions, arguing that recognition for same-sex unions would signal government approval for “behavior very different from genetic norms.”
Binetti noted that under existing law homosexuals already have the same legal rights as all other citizens. “There is already recognition of the rights of homosexual civil unions in our civil code,” she said.
In response Franco Grillini, the parlimentarian who is honorary president of the homosexual activist group Arcigay, attacked Binetti, bringing up the lawmaker’s membership in Opus Dei. “The Church is a dictatorship and Opus Dei wants to ‘cure’ homosexuals,” Grillini said.
The gay lawmaker went on make a stinging reference to the practice of corporal mortification performed by Opus Dei members.
“I do not sadomasochistic practices,” he said; “but they must not be imposed on others.”
