Pope gives his administration new business and personnel regulations

Pope Leo XIV has given the administration of the universal church new business and personnel regulations.

The corresponding decree was published by the Vatican on Monday.

The new rules of procedure "Regolamento Generale della Curia Romana" and the new personnel regulations"Regolamento del personale della Curia Romana" come into force on 1 January and will apply for a trial period of five years.

The adjustments of the regulations to the new curia constitution"Praedicate evangelium" had been long awaited.

It came into force over three years ago and was a focal point of Pope Francis ' term of office (2013-2025).

The Rules of Procedure of the Roman Curia were last completely revised in 1999.

At that time, John Paul II of Poland (1978-2005) led the Catholic Church.

The rules of procedure regulate the (joint) work of the offices and institutions under Pope Leo XIV.

The more extensive personnel regulations govern the rights and duties of Curia employees, from recruitment requirements and weekly working hours to possible severance payments.

Most recently in August, Leo decreed more inclusive access for people with disabilities to Vatican jobs in the Curia's labour law.
