In recent days, federal courts have issued injunctions barring
enforcement of the HHS mandate, which compels most employers to offer
insurance that covers contraception, sterilization, and some
abortifacients. Retired law professor Howard Fineman noted on the Religion Clause blog that
- a federal district court in Texas, issuing a permanent injunction, sided with the Catholic Diocese of Beaumont and Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas
- a federal district court in Michigan, issuing a temporary injunction, sided with Ave Maria Foundation, Ave Maria Radio, Domino’s Farms Petting Farm, Rhodora J. Donahue Academy, and Thomas More Law Center,
- the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit issued an injunction temporarily barring enforcement of the mandate against the Archdiocese of Washington and associated charities.
