Warsaw to commemorate John Paul II

The anniversary of John Paul II's demise is a day which will be always remembered by Poles.

A number of concerts and special events dedicated to the Polish Pope will take place all over Poland to commemorate this day.

The organizer of the celebrations scheduled to take place on April 1-3, 2011, is the Centrum Myśli Jana Pawła II (Centre for Thought of John Paul II).

The project carried out by the Centre on the 6th anniversary of John Paul's II death is called "Bridge: each small one is great" and it is aimed for six-year olds, who were born in the year the Pope died.

On April 1 and 2 the house, school, post office and other elements from Wadowice where Karol Wojtyła spent his childhood will be staged in tents located on the Piłsudski Square in Warsaw.

Children visiting each of them will find out more about the everyday life of young Karol Wojtyła and will be able to take in the teachings of the Pope through participating in various attractions.

For example, completing one of the tasks, children will make a book illustrating the Pope's life.

A vigil will start in the evening of April 2.

Those who will attend it will be able to listen to John Paul's texts on sanctity read by actors and fragments of homilies delivered by John Paul II on his pilgrimages to Poland.

A mobile museum will arrive in Warsaw on April 3.

Pope's shoes and skies, cassock and pen used by him to make his personal notes along with a multimedia presentation and photo exhibition will be on display in a car museum which will drive from Kraków to Warsaw on the invitation of the Centrum Myśli Jana Pawła II.

On the same day a special concert will be held in the Arch-see.

The choir of the Centrum Myśli Jana Pawła II will perform a repertoire of contemporary compositions.

Pieces by Polish composers such as Marian Sawa, Marek Jasiński and foreign authors i.e. Morten Lauridsen and Michael Waldenby will be played.

The 27-year-long pontificate of the Polish Pope made it to history as a breakthrough in the history of Catholic Church and a life-changing event for millions of people.

John Paul II will be beatified on May 1 in Rome.
