Pope Francis bequeaths money for Ukraine aid to nun

In his will,Pope Francis has earmarked funds for the purchase of ambulances in Ukraine. This was reported by the Dominican Lucía Caram in a Spanish radio programme.

The papal donation is expressly intended for medical care in the war zone, she said, as reported on Tuesday by the Spanish portal Religion Digital.

Caram, who has repeatedly travelled to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian attack in February 2022 to support humanitarian projects there, was deeply moved by the gesture of the Pope, who died in April 2025.

Francis had assured her of his support several times, she said, "but I never expected it to come in this form".

Born in Argentina, the nun has lived in Spain for around 30 years.

She became known throughout the country for her social commitment; in 2015, for example, she received the "Catalan of the Year" award.
