A popular South Kilkenny priest hopes that the Catholic hierarchy will “go local” when it comes to the appointment of the next Bishop of Ossory.
As revealed last month, Bishop Niall Coll is returning to his native Raphoe, having been consecrated in Ossory at the end of 2022, to take up the role vacated by Dermot Farrell, who served as Bishop there for just under two years.
Following Bishop Seamus Freeman’s retirement in the summer of 2016, the role remained unoccupied for two years.
Speaking to KCLR News, Templeorum and Piltown parish priest Paschal Moore outlined his hopes for the next Bishop.
“I feel myself to be lovely if we could have a bishop from our own diocese, one who knows all the priests, who knows the area, who knows the people, who knows the tradition, who knows the culture.” he said.
“You know, it would be lovely if we could have a bishop who is all fair with everybody.” he added.
