Archbishop Advincula received chalice as token not money from Romualdez, says priest

A Catholic priest debunked news circulating online that Cardinal Jose Advincula, Archbishop of Manila, received money from former  Speaker Martin Romualdez.

During his homily on the fourth day of Simbang Gabi (Dawn Mass) on Friday, Fr. Rolando Dela Cruz, rector of the Manila Cathedral, shared that back in July, Romualdez attended mass and offered a token to Advincula in a small suitcase.

“After the Mass, as a token of appreciation, Speaker Romualdez brought something to Cardinal Advincula’s altar. It was like a case—a small suitcase. It contained a chalice. There was no money in it. The news is not true,” Dela Cruz said in Filipino.

He stressed the importance of not taking news at face value, urging people instead to “ask the right questions.”

“That is fake news. When you see it, when you read it on Facebook, ask yourself, is this true? It is not true,” he said, urging churchgoers to be inquisitive about information circulating online.
