Andrew Showers, 37, was charged with child enticement, use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime and attempted second-degree sexual assault of a child, the Clintonville Police Department said in a Facebook post.
On Sunday, Showers allegedly made arrangements to travel to Clintonville, a community roughly 130 miles away from Madison in the north central part of the state, to meet a 14-year-old girl, authorities stated.
He was arrested that evening in the town and lodged in the county jail, where he remained Tuesday.
Following his arrest, the 37-year-old priest has been restricted from exercising public ministry while the investigation continues, the Diocese of Madison said in a statement, in part.
Showers, who was ordained in 2017, serves as parochial vicar at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Madison.
The diocese said no previous allegations of misconduct have been made against Showers.
