Boing, boing - the ball hits the racket twice, then it rolls away.
On Wednesday, the passionate tennis player Leo XIV tried his hand at the smaller version of table tennis, without resounding success.
During the general audience, the Pope received a particularly large gift: his own table tennis table including two red bats and white balls.
His papal coat of arms is depicted several times on the table, with his name Leo XIV written on the edge and on the bats.
Although the Pope did not start a game in the Vatican audience hall, he did try to bounce a ball on the table tennis bat.
The sports equipment could soon find a place in Leo's new flat in the Apostolic Palace.
The papal apartments there extend over two floors and would offer enough space for a fitness room.
The flat is currently being remodelled and is expected to be completed by the end of September. According to media reports, Leo will not be moving in alone, but with a small group of Augustinian monks.
Enough people to play a round of table tennis.
