"The letters come from all over the world, and at the moment it is not possible to determine which country writes the most to the Pope," said the head of the Italian Post's Rome sorting centre, Antonello Chidichimo, to the "Vatican News" portal (Thursday).
The letters and postcards from countries such as the USA, Kosovo and India are subjected to a security check at the Fiumicino sorting centre and processed by a computer-controlled recording and weighing machine.
The "Pope's mail" then arrives at the distribution centre closest to the Vatican and is delivered by the postmen.
