Orthodox priests banned from having profiles on social networks

Metropolitan of Prespa and Pelagonia Petar from the Macedonian Orthodox Church has banned priests from his diocese from having profiles on social networks, the website Religiya.mk reports.

The document, which also provides for sanctions for failure to comply with the order, was published by the publication, and in it, as an argument for the ban, it is stated that the personal views, which are increasingly expressed by priests of the diocese on social networks, can be interpreted as official views of the diocese, respectively, of the Orthodox Church of North Macedonia, BTA reports.

A similar attempt to ban the use of social networks, at the initiative of Metropolitan Petar, through the Synod of the Orthodox Church in the country, took place about ten years ago, but due to public reactions, it was withdrawn, the publication reports.
