The church grounds of Oylegate church has experienced a number of instances of illegal parking, speeding and anti-social behaviour in recent weeks.
Fr Dermot Gahan has issued a warning that certain behaviour is not allowed to take place on church premises.
"The Gardens are a place for people to visit for a quite prayer or reflection during day light hours. Please no litter, no smoking, no alcohol, no drug use and no loitering after dark,” he said.
He highlighted that the parking area in the church grounds is primarily for use by those attending church services, visiting the cemetery or prayer gardens, but an increasing number of vehicles are now using the area for all day parking.
This parking is now limited the spaces available for important services like funerals, and said that maybe donations now need to be collected from those availing of their service.
"In general, proper regulations need to be put in place for all vehicles using the facility. Many are driving in the grounds at dangerous speeds. Some individuals are discarding litter from their vehicles which is doing nothing to enhance the overall appearance of the area. We should not have to continually clean-up other people’s litter who are availing of the facility for free,” he added.
