Scammers have been posing as a Parish Priest in Co Leitrim asking for people to donate Apple Gift Cards to be gifted to a cancer patient.
Residents have received the email in recent days and a text alert has been sent out advising people not to engage with the email.
The alert was sent to residents in the Ballinamore, Aughnashellin, Keshcarrigan and Fenagh areas.
The alert reads, “New email scam - fake email address using the name of local parish priest requesting the purchase of Apple Gift Cards for a cancer patient. Please don’t engage.
“To report suspicious activity, contact the local 24 hour Garda Station in Carrick On Shannon on 071 96 50510.”
