Over the last few days, there has been a genuine and profoundly felt sadness at the death of Bishop Willie Walsh.
Many I have spoken with remember him with great fondness.
They speak of his down to earth humanity, his kindness, his warm caring personality and his deep faith.
His life of service as a priest and as a bishop touched the lives of so many people in positive ways that he himself might never have imagined.
On behalf of the Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora and the Diocese of Clonfert, I extend our deepest sympathy to Bishop Willie’s family, and friends, to Bishop Fintan and the priests and people of our neighboring Diocese of Killaloe.
Bishop Willie “May songs of the angels welcome you and guide you along your way. May the smiles of the martyrs greet your own as darkness turns into day. Every fear will be undone and death will be no more, As songs of the angels bring you home before the face of God.”
Bishop Michael
